AeroAngel was founded by Mark Pestal, a Denver attorney and commercial pilot, who has a passion for aviation and a desire to use his flying skills to help others. As a volunteer air charity pilot, he saw the need to utilize a more capable, all-weather aircraft to fly missions in the Colorado area. Many scheduled missions have gone uncompleted or been delayed due to marginal weather or the lack of a suitable aircraft. Having declined a number of missions himself, he could appreciate the fact that most private pilots were not comfortable flying a single-engine airplane in inclement weather or over the mountains in instrument conditions. Moreover, AeroAngel provides an opportunity for experienced pilots, who do not own an aircraft, to fly in service of others.
Mark’s aviation background also includes work on aviation cases, and he has authored several safety-related articles for IFR Magazine and Aviation Safety. His experience in the air charity arena includes past service on the Board of Directors of LifeLine Pilots, and he has offered his services as a volunteer pilot for several organizations, including the Civil Air Patrol.
